Five Love Languages, Part III, Pastor Jim Cornwall

We welcome Pastor Jim to the pulpit this coming Sunday as he teaches on one of the five "languages" or expressions of love that we've been studying (quality time).  It's a "don't miss" service.

The world is in desperate need of God's love.  As a church family, this is our primary calling...to love.  As each of us are faithful to that calling- can you imagine the difference we can make in our community?  The power of multiplication through the power of love!

The FIve Love Languages, Part II, Pastor Chris Harper

The depth and extent of God's love for people is beyond our minds' ability to grasp.  How desperately the world needs to experience it!  But we can't give what we haven't received; God is the only true love-Source.  We can't produce it ourselves.  It's only by His Spirit in us that we can love effectively.

Our "Five Love Language" series began last Sunday as we introduced the 5 general ways people receive and express love.  These principles present a "key" to a more effective expressions of love in our relationships, If you were there, have you determined your dominant "love language?"  Do you know your spouse's language?  Your friends and family? Expressing love to others in a way that is understood and received is an important skill that can be cultivated.  Just for review, the five love languages are acts of service, words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, and physical touch.  Here are three questions to help you as you evaluate your language:

1.  What makes you feel most loved by your relatives or spouse?
2.  What do your friends do or say, or fail to do or say that hurts you deeply?
3.  What do you desire above all else?

Very often, we express the language we desire to receive from those around us.  At SWC, we're committed to loving God and loving people;.  join us this Sunday as we continue to grow fluent in all five.

Thankful for God's extravagant love,

Pastor Chris

The Five Love Languages, Part I, Pastor Chris Harper

I hope you're having an excellent week in God. Don't you find that recognizing His presence makes all the difference?  Last Sunday, we had an off-the-charts great missions conference.  To Pastor Bob, our students and our visiting missionaries, I send my thanks.  Our Sunday services are now availble online in a live streaming format.  If you're ill or traveling on a Sunday, you can just go to www.ustream.com and search for swconline.  That will take you to our channel.

This Sunday is Valentine's Day, and it probably comes as no surprise that we are talking about love!  We'll begin the sermon series on the Five Love Languages, a study on loving and being loved, God's way.  There are few topics that impact our daily lives and relationships more than this; I encourage you to join us as we become more effective givers and receivers of love, with the Lord and with those around us.

Enjoying the journey with you,

Pastor Chris

Annual Missions Conference, February 7th, 2010

This week's message is our annual missions conference service. Today we reflected on all that God has accomplished in the past and focused on what He'll do in the future, through missions at SWC.

This is a very important day in the overall mission of the SWC congregation.  We so appreciate your willingness to get involved in being a source of prayer and support for reaching out to those who need to hear the Good News.  The faith promises that our congregation make on this Sunday will have a great impact on what we are able to do this year in missions.  Whether you give, pray, or go, know that the Lord is faithful to His Word and will see it spread!

Pastor Martin Magelin shared the message today.

Immerse, Part III, Pastor Chris Harper

When we come into the presence of the Lord, we see how truly available He is to us, as well as His incredible greatness.   What we saw in the Ezekiel passage (chapter 47) is so applicable to us today:  God is drawing us to Him, and we need to respond with diligence!  What a privilege we have as believers to live in His presence daily.

I believe the Lord is calling us as a church family to immerse ourselves in the things of God and into our community.  As we move forward in 2010, join us as we respond to this challenge.  In this message, I am teaching out of John 17, which is an amazing prayer of our Lord for us as believers.  He is praying for us, that we're covered with His protection while still being "immersed" in the world, bringing glory to the Father.

Enjoying the journey with you,

Immerse, Part II, Pastor Chris Harper

In light of last Sunday, I'm thankful that "God's arm has not been amputated!" (Isaiah 59:1, MSG)  We serve a great God, who is at work around the world and in our lives right now.  In this message, we talk further about what it means to be "immersed" in the things of God.

IYou are a wonderful church family, and I know that you, like me, are committed to going as far as is necessary to receive the promises God has for us.

The SIxth Sense, Part II, Pastor Chris Harper

In advance of listening to this message, I'd like to ask you to ponder a question: "Is God is always speaking to us individually or are there times at which heaven's "doors" remain closed to us?  Email me your thoughts if you wish (chris@scottsdaleworship.com).

Every Sunday together is a Sunday I cherish.  As we begin our new year together, a renewed passion for worship and heightened sensitivity to what the Holy Spirit is speaking is so important at this time.  God spoke to a young, learning-to-listen Samuel, "I am about to do a thing in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle"  (I Sam. 3:11).

Immerse, Part I, Pastor Chris Harper

I find myself thankful to the Lord today, for His constant Presence, His faithfulness, and for you, SWC family.  As we "press on" in Him this year, individually and corporately, we can trust Him to continue the work, in His time and in His way.  This coming Sunday, I'll share some of what the Lord has placed on my heart for SWC for 2010.  We'll enjoy family communion together and have opportunity to renew our commitment to fulfilling our part of His purposes in our lives and in His church.   See you Sunday!

Blessings to you,

Pastor Chris
